Shark Tags To Stop Wardrobing

It is spring time, so that means prom and wedding season is upon us.  If you watch nightly sitcoms or go to the movies to see romantic comedies, you have seen the story line where the lady buys the dress she cannot afford, wears it to the event, and intends to take it back for a full refund.  Of course in the story, there is the inevitable wine glass that gets tipped over on the dress, or other antics that renders it nonreturnable.  In the real world, a Shark Tag should be the reason that dress will not go back to the store.
In today’s world, many people are choosing to buy their formal wear from an online retailer.  The prices are usually a lot less than buying in a department store, and in many cases the selection is better.  The downside is that in order to keep loyal customers and return business, many online retailers have more generous return policies.  Plus many include a return label in the shipping box.  Obviously, if the dress is altered, the freedom to return the item is voided, but to save money, a wardrober will make it work without making any changes to the garment.   Shark Tags are the simple solution to reducing these negative sales for your online business.  Defects and wrong sizes are one thing completely, but wearing an item and returning it just because you do not want to pay for it is another.  If they want to that type of clothing, they need to borrow something from a friend or find a rental business.
Before shipping out a big beautiful ballgown, clip on a Shark Tag.  Put it right on the front of the dress, perhaps on the neckline or really anywhere extremely visible.  The point is to put it somewhere the person cannot just simply tuck it in.  They are brightly colored, and will stick out like a sore thumb.  You can even attach a small printed copy of your return policy with the Shark Tag.  If the tag is removed, the dress is yours.  The tags are designed to be easily removed with a pair of household scissors, but will not go back on once removed.  Tampering is very evident, so there will be no question of whether or not the item was used.  They are also very convenient for use on accessories, such as shoes and purses.  If there is not an option of clipping on the Shark Tag, they will also attach with a lanyard.  Now when the big name dress comes back with armpit stains and a nasty smokey smell, you don’t have to argue with the customer about whether or not it is eligible for a refund.  No more purses coming back with crumbs and lipstick stains down inside them.  If the tag is gone or damaged, the customer owns it, and you are simply following the return policy.
Online retailer’s survival depends on a good business model, new and loyal customers, and repeat business.  They cannot keep doing business if a lot of their inventory is coming back for full refunds. Take the next step to keeping your business in the black, and start using Shark Tags.

Checkpoint Tags on Jeans

Do you know the one thing I hate about working Loss Prevention in a store that carries apparel merchandise? Denim jeans. Not only do styles constantly change, they are one of the hottest theft targets there is. So many times have I had my day ruined by a shoplifter because they were able to get out with hundreds and thousands of dollars with just a couple pairs of jeans. I can remember working for my current company a few years ago, long before we installed our Checkpoint System. It was pretty much open season for shoplifting.
As a District LP Manager, I was in charge of a team of LP managers at about 15 stores across the south. Each one of those stores had a small LP team of about 3-4 associates. Every shoplifting case that was entered into our system came to me for final approval and it was my job to track trends and provide feedback to our corporate office on ways we could minimize losses in the stores. Enter denim jeans. As soon as a new style would hit the shelf, it was like we were sending out the bat signal to shoplifters. This was before we had the ability to use Checkpoint Tags, so you could probably imagine my frustration.
Day after day and week after week, it seemed like every shoplifting case I approved was for denim jeans. While my teams were certainly catching shoplifters, I knew that even more than that was still going on. The store would routinely conduct inventory counts at least once per month, and month after month the losses would just continue to pile up. I had enough of seeing it. It was time we got serious about protecting our products. I researched some options for a company of our size and I found that installing a Checkpoint system would be our best option.
Well, before I could pitch my idea at the next executive conference call, we got word that the company was in plans to install the Checkpoint System. Hey, at least I was looking at the same set up… I just couldn’t call it my idea. Within a few weeks, the new systems were rolled out to my stores and the first thing I did with my tote full of Checkpoint Tags was secure all of my denim jeans. The results were almost immediate and shrink began reducing overnight it seemed. This simple Checkpoint Tag was enough of a deterrent to stop some of our most prolific shoplifters.

Checkpoint System – A Big Deal For Any Small Business

What kind of store needs a Checkpoint System?  In my opinion, any type of business can benefit and exceed their shrink and budget expectations if they make the investment.  With it’s recognizable design, and industry leading product protection capabilities, there is no better choice.  Considering all the different tools that are compatible with this system, the possibilities for stopping losses are almost endless.  There are the Checkpoint labels that adhere to almost any packaging.  These can even have your store’s name and address printed on them.  If your store sells clothing or accessories, Checkpoint hard tags are what you need.  They can be attached as a pin or via lanyard, and their level of inventory control is unmatched.  Those are just two examples; there are many more.
In any case, the reality of the impact to your business’ bottom line cannot be ignored.  Small businesses are the backbone of many communities.  Their contributions are undeniable, and when a business thrives that success spreads to the surrounding area and attracts more stores.  When a local store becomes a destination for loyal shoppers, it can attract shoplifters as well.  When you sell hot items that people want, you are almost certainly going to have external theft.
Checkpoint Systems can be the deterrence you need.  The pedestals alone tell a would-be thief that their chances of getting out the door without detection are slim.  Add the labels or tags, in visible locations on the products you sell, and you have the right equation to solve a big problem before it happens.
I was in a local gift shop recently and the only loss prevention measure they had in place was a sign that read “smile, you are on camera”.  I was not convinced of this nor was I impressed in the least.  This little place sells trendy purses that are very popular in our area.  They also sell expensive collectible items that are usually only available to people in our small town from mail order catalogs or from an all day trip to a much bigger city.   I was amazed at how little concern they seemed to have for all this high retail inventory just sitting there.  My own store is less than a mile down the street, so I know the issues they must face, but seem to be ignoring.  We may be in a small town, but the theft problem is really big.  In my store it can range from petty thefts of packs of beef jerky to high dollar hair straighteners.  It is a daily battle just to keep the boosters at bay, so to me, it is unbelievable to have one person behind the counter, alone in a store, with nothing more than a sign to ward of theft.
We have a Checkpoint System at our location, and it’s value to us is immeasurable.  The thing is, when we identify products that we know will likely be targeted for theft, we take the steps to protect them immediately.  If we miss the opportunity and discover the loss after the fact, we chalk it up as a lesson learned, and we attach Checkpoint labels or Checkpoint tags, depending on the merchandise, so it does not happen again.
Signs may help stuff sell, but as far as loss prevention, they miss the mark.  Don’t depend on a sign to change the mind of a thief.  Depend on a Checkpoint System.
